After losing his crew in a fatal mid-rescue helicopter crash, legendary Coast Guard rescue swimmer Ben Randall is sent to teach at an elite rescue training school. Still wrestling with the loss of his crew, he throws himself into teaching, turning the program upside-down with his unorthodox training methods. Ben soon encounters a young, troubled but cocky swim champ, Jake Fischer, who is driven to be the best. During training, Ben helps mold Jake's character, combining his student's raw talent with the heart and dedication required of a true rescue swimmer. After graduating, Jake follows Ben to Kodiak, Alaska, where they face the inherent dangers of the Bering Sea. In Jake's first solo rescue, he learns from Ben the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice, echoing the swimmer's motto, "So Others May Live!"
